Lucky 13 was given a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This story is book 3 of a romantic suspense series featuring Grayce Walters, a veterinarian whose specialty is animal acupuncture. The hero and heroine featured in this book are Nick, a former military member suffering from PTSD, and Hollie, who works for Grayce. Hollie has her own battle scars from a troubled childhood. Nick and Hollie are drawn to one another, and become closer as they work together to foil an ecoterrorist plot which has also targeted Grayce. Overall, this was an entertaining romantic suspense read with a satisfying ending for the seemingly odd couple of a former golden boy turned military hero and a sheltered and struggling goth chick. There were some interesting supporting characters in the story, as well as some loveable dogs, including Grayce’s canine companion, Mitzi, and Nick’s military working dog, Talley, who is trained to detect bombs. Although this book can be read as a stand-alone, I recommend reading the series in order to get a better understanding of some of the characters and their backgrounds and to add context to the story. I give it 3.5 stars. The only constructive comment I have is that the relationship between Nick and Hollie seemed to move very quickly, especially given Nick’s PTSD and Hollie’s mistrust of men. At the same time, I felt happy that they had found each other and their happily ever after.
