Lucky 13 received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Adam James is a corn-fed, Nebraska raised, piece of man meat with a chiseled body and baby face. He is in desperate need of a paycheck and will do just about anything to get one, including stripping down to his skivvies and lathering up in baby oil.
Solo Cohan is a quirky hipster with a strong work ethic, raised by two gay dads who are head over heels in love with Harrison Ford and Star Wars, hence the name, Solo. She works for Teeg Model Management, the same modeling agency that decides to book Adam as their next up and coming model. Sparks ignite between her and Adam the minute her baby oil soaked hand connects with his practically naked body.
Even though Solo can't stop thinking about Adam during photo shoots, she quickly and awkwardly, shows Adam her distaste for male models and her inability to engage romantically with them. Adam is captivated by her nerdy talk and peculiar tendencies and sets out to make it his mission to turn the Star Wars loving hipster to the dark side, where mingling with models is widely arousing.
"Hi, I'm Adam and I think Harrison Ford is a god."
I have never read a Meghan Quinn book before, but I wish I had discovered her sooner! Adam and Solo are very relatable and are such a great couple. This book really appealed to the geek in me and the Star Wars theme holds strong throughout the book. The story has a definite "don't judge a book by its cover" feel. Adam is a hot guy hiding a geek underneath. He is also trying to hide the reason that he needs money so bad he is willing to have lots of half naked pictures taken of him. Solo is a total nerd hiding behind all her hipsterness and she is hiding the reason she won't date a model.
"She wasn't your typical in-fashion kind of girl; she could care less what was on her body, which was the same way I felt. As long as it was comfortable, I was good with it."
I loved seeing the modelling world from the man's perspective and how the models deal with being "man meat". How the job can be physically demanding but not mentally demanding.
"It's why we don't have girlfriends; we're for show...we're glorified trick ponies. Women only want us for our bodies, not our minds."
All in all, it was a great book. There was a lot of setup for other characters, so I am hoping we will get more stories from Teeg Model Management and Ms. Quinn!
This is where we will post reviews, pimp books and authors, and announce releases and covers. Enjoy!
